Stories of Impact and Information

News From Our Member Network

The Thrivent Member Network is a group of local Christians who come together to learn, support one another and make a real impact in our communities. We’re part of Thrivent, a membership-owned, holistic financial services organization that is committed to providing financial advice, investments, insurance, banking and generosity programs to help people achieve financial clarity and make the most of all they’ve been given.

For over 100 years, Thrivent has been helping people build their financial futures and live more generous lives. Today, it’s a Fortune 500 company that offers a full range of expert financial solutions, serving more than 2 million clients, as well as the communities in which they live and work. Each time your visit our website, we hope to inspire you to make an impact in your families, communities, churches and beyond by utilizing your Thrivent member benefits.

Impact In Our Area

Locally, Thrivent members have joined together to help families in need, support their congregations and community organziations and make a difference right where they live, work and worship. Through our Thrivent Member Network, they’ve held fundraisers for causes they care about. They’ve organized service projects to help families in need and learned new ways to be wise with what they’ve been given. And their passion to help others continues to make an impact in nearly every corner of our wonderful community. If you’re already involved in the Thrivent Member Network, you know there are even more great things we can do together! If you’d like to join us in making a difference in people’s lives – including your own –check out the Events page. We’d love to have you join us!

Community Response

Recently, communities across the country have experienced a range of emotions—anger, sorrow, frustration and, at times, hope—as conversations around race and equity continue. A statement from CEO Terry Rasmussen was posted on in June. In case you haven’t seen it yet, you can read it here.

In our Thrivent Member Network in Texas, we continue to grapple with the systemic inequities people of color experience on a day to day basis. We are listening, learning and responding, and we welcome you to join us on this journey.

Engage by giving time and goods. We have compiled volunteer opportunities, in-kind donation ideas and additional resources we’re seeing in action.

The Austin Area Urban League (AAUL) is doing a distribution drive of contactless drive up PPE KITS throughout 2020. Use your Action Teams’ Seed Money ($250) to purchase personal protective equipment (hand sanitizer, antibacterial soap, gloves, masks, moist towelettes, Kleenex, etc – we will provide a list to you!), then join us to help distribute these PPE kits to the community during this COVID crisis. Distribution occurs at the Huston-Tillotson University from 9 AM-3 PM one day per month. (Oct/Nov/Dec dates TBD).

If you’re interested in this Action Team idea, contact Marquita Fagan at for more details!

Create care packages for Restoring Justice (RJ) clients. Purchase a collection of items (we’ll help provide a list) such as hygiene items, a first outfit for after incarceration, a note of encouragement, and more. Use your seed money to purchase the supplies, then gather your family or friends together to package the care packages. If you’re not local in Houston, you can use seed money to also ship the packages!

If you’d like to supply care packages, please contact Mike Nichols at for more information!

Host an educational event to learn more about Restoring Justice and our mission. At your church, with your neighbors, or virtually, gather family and friends to bring in a Restoring Justice staff member who will share more about criminal system injustices, Restoring Justice’s mission, and ways you can support their work. If you’d like, you can collect a free-will donation to raise funds to support Restoring Justice! Your Action Team’s seed money can be used for food (if gathered in person or as a food delivery if virtual) and to gather supplies for RJ’s work.

If you’d like to more info about hosting an educational event, contact Giovanni Arias at for more information.

Bringing a smile to others is always a good thing, but it is even better when it includes silly costumes and a box of goodies! Volunteer at SAGE’s 2020 HalloEast event on October 19th and 21st. Use your Action Teams’ Seed Money ($250) to purchase candies and coloring books to be included in goodie bags. Then help assemble treat boxes for children on the Eastside (members can assemble from home and then drop off at SAGE office), and/or deliver treat boxes to children on the Eastside (drop offs)! With less than 60 days away, Halloween will look and feel different this year, but with the generosity from community partners, we will provide a fang-tastic, safe and fun Halloween to children residing on the Eastside.

If you’d like to help participate in this idea, please email for more information.
