Meet VP of Thrivent Career Network Sheri Cooper

At Thrivent Financial, we look for leaders who are tenacious, passionate and humble. Leaders like Sheri Cooper.

Sheri joined Thrivent Financial in 1995 as a financial associate in Minot, North Dakota. In just three years, she joined the region's leadership team as a recruiting specialist and fraternal director for the state of Montana and Western North Dakota.

In 2008, she was promoted to partner, and in 2011 she was named managing partner of the Northland region. She subsequently led the Northland region to rank among the top regions in the nation five years in a row! Sheri now serves as vice president of Thrivent Financial Career Network – Thrivent's distribution channel of more than 2,000 financial professionals serving communities across the country. 

Sheri is invested in our mission, her team and her industry. She's an active member of many industry groups including GAMA International, National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), and Women in Insurance & Financial Services (WIFS), and she serves on the advisory board for the American College Cary M. Maguire Center for Ethics in Financial Services. She holds a Chartered Leadership Fellow (CLF) designation granted by the American College of Financial Services in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania; a Certification for Long-Term Care (CLTC) designation; and a Fraternal Insurance Counselor (FIC) designation granted by the Fraternal Field Managers' Association. Outside of her career, Sheri and her husband, Kelly, have four children and one granddaughter, and Sheri is an active runner and sports enthusiast.

We sat down with Sheri to learn more about her time at Thrivent Financial and how she came to Be Part of Our Story:

How did you know that coming to Thrivent Financial was the right career move for you?

I was introduced to Thrivent's culture and mission through family members. I saw them taking pride and satisfaction in their careers and saw the impact their work had on the lives of others. I personally understood that same sense of satisfaction shortly after starting my career here. I helped a couple with their planning and witnessed the contentment, confidence and excitement these members had after our work together. Thinking about that couple is still one of my most meaningful reminders of why I love working at Thrivent Financial.

In your experience, what characteristics make a great leader in Thrivent Financial?

As a managing partner in the field (and in my current role), I looked for those who were servant leaders – a trait at Thrivent Financial that rises above all others. Leaders who are inspired to support the growth and development of those they serve will find a fulfilling career here. As for the recipients of that support, there's satisfaction in contributing to the success of our inspiring mission.

What would you want new employees or financial professionals to know about the leadership at Thrivent Financial?

My hope is that new financial professionals understand that leadership's commitment to their success is critical to fulfilling our mission of helping more Christians make wise financial decisions. By building fulfilling careers and businesses, we ensure professional progress through a leader-supported covenant partnership, all while ultimately delivering on our mission.

What would you tell new employees or financial professionals about where Thrivent Financial will be 10 years from now?

In 10 years, my hope is that Thrivent Financial will be recognized as the company of choice for Christians who want to feel more confident and content when it comes to their finances. We are focused on providing many channels and access points that allow for members to work with us when, where and how they want. And, our goal is to reach the day when Christians actively seek us out because of the way we serve our communities and members – with both our unique mission and the value proposition we offer customers.
